Does a video show people riding on train roofs to reach the Jantar Mantar protest? No, PIB says it is out of context

The clip spread on 11 October 2026, a day after the CJP's second Jantar Mantar march. The government's fact-checking unit says it has been falsely linked to the protest.

A video of people travelling on the roofs of a train was shared on 11 October 2026 with the claim that they were on their way to Delhi to join the protest at Jantar Mantar. PIB Fact Check, the government's fact-checking unit, says the claim is false and the video has been linked to current events out of context.

Out of context

Claim: A video shows people riding on train roofs to reach Delhi for the Jantar Mantar protest.

Said by: Social media posts on 11 October 2026. PIB did not name the accounts.

What the record shows: PIB Fact Check said the video is being shared with a false claim and circulated in the wrong context by tying it to current events. It did not say where or when the video was filmed.

Where the claim came from

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called supporters to Jantar Mantar on 10 October to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and called a second march for 10 am on 11 October. ETV Bharat

Train travel was already part of the story. Northern Railway cancellations rose to more than 250 trains on 10 October, PTI reported. ETV Bharat Claim · CJP The CJP said 15 to 30 of its members were taken off the Goa Express at Itarsi Junction on their way to Delhi; police did not confirm this. DT Next/PTI

Against that background, a clip of people crowded on train roofs was posted as proof that supporters were pouring into Delhi.

What the evidence shows

False At 12:37 pm on 11 October, PIB Fact Check posted on X (in Hindi) that a video of people travelling on train roofs "is being shared on social media with the false claim" that people are reaching Delhi to join the Jantar Mantar protest. It added that the video "is being circulated in the wrong context by linking it to current events". PIB Fact Check

PIB's post, as published, did not identify the original location or date of the footage. We have not found an independent fact-check of the clip, so the precise origin remains unknown. What PIB rules out is the claim attached to it.

This was not the first train video of the protest. On 10 October PIB said a separate clip of "passengers riding goods trains to Delhi" was from Bangladesh. PIB Fact Check PIB has not said whether the two clips are linked.

At 1:41 pm on 11 October PIB pinned a general warning that old incidents, visuals from unrelated places and AI-generated videos were being shared without context, and asked people to check the source before sharing. PIB Fact Check Delhi Police posted a similar warning at 9:13 am. Delhi Police
