In July 2026 a video of a house collapsing after a blast was shared as the Indian Army bombing minority homes in Manipur. It is false: the clip shows a house in Churachandpur destroyed during the 2023 ethnic violence, and its owner blamed militants, not the army.
Claim: The "Indian Army is destroying Minority houses in Manipur", shown by a video of a house being blown up.
Said by: Social media posts, including X handle @Sakshisehna581 on 28 July 2026.
What the record shows: The video was online by July 2024 and shows a house in Churachandpur destroyed between May and September 2023. BOOM
Where the claim came from
Manipur saw a new wave of protest in 2026. On 7 April a bomb killed two children in Moirang Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, and three protesters were later shot dead at a CRPF camp at Gelmol. NE Now
Against that background, on 28 July 2026 the X handle @Sakshisehna581 posted a 25-second video of a house collapsing after a loud blast. The caption read "This is Manipur, not Palestine" and said the "Indian Army is destroying Minority houses in Manipur!" Others shared it with similar claims. BOOM did not report view counts. BOOM
What the evidence shows
Documented A reverse image search traced the video to a Facebook post by the page Manipur Times dated 26 July 2024, whose caption linked it to the 2023 violence. BOOM
A keyword search led BOOM to an NDTV report from July 2024, when the video first surfaced. It quoted the property owner, Naorem Ibomcha Meitei, who said his three-storey house in Churachandpur had been destroyed with explosives by Kuki militants, and that the footage was filmed between May and September 2023. The exact date is not known. BOOM
The 2023 conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities killed 258 people and displaced 60,000, according to figures BOOM cited. BOOM published on 30 July 2026 and rated the claim false, finding no connection to the Indian Army. BOOM
The caption also misdescribed who was involved. It framed the house as a minority home targeted by the army. BOOM found the footage was filmed in a Kuki-dominated area of Churachandpur, and the owner, Naorem Ibomcha Meitei, blamed a militant group, not soldiers. BOOM
Context
The real 2026 incidents remain partly unresolved. The NIA took over the Tronglaobi bombing on 23 April 2026 under the UAPA and other laws, while no inquiry into the Gelmol camp firing has been reported. UNI Recycled 2023 footage makes those facts harder to see. The full record is on our Manipur protests page.
