Did S. Jaishankar seek the extradition of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke?

A clip from a real press conference with Marco Rubio was given a fake soundtrack about the Cockroach Janta Party.

In May 2026 a video appeared to show External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attacking the Cockroach Janta Party and seeking the extradition of its founder, Abhijeet Dipke. It is false: the footage comes from a real press conference, but the words about the CJP were never spoken and the audio is AI-generated.

False

Claim: Jaishankar accused the CJP of leading anti-India movements, sought Dipke's extradition and said he was surprised the US would host the party.

Said by: A viral video shared on X, including by pro-Pakistan handles.

What the record shows: The remarks do not appear in the official recording or transcript of Jaishankar's 24 May 2026 press conference, and a voice-detection tool flagged the audio as AI-made. BOOM

Where the claim came from

The CJP was a week old and already had millions of followers when the clip began circulating. In it, Jaishankar appears to say the government is "deeply afraid" of the new party, to accuse it of leading anti-India movements, to demand that Dipke be extradited, and to express surprise that the United States would host the party. BOOM

BOOM traced the clip on X to the handle @Iam_Baloch1805, which posted it with a caption beginning "Deeply afraid of the new political party Cockroach Janata Party". The pro-Pakistan handle @InsiderWB shared it with a similar claim. BOOM did not report view counts. BOOM

The premise did not fit the record either. Dipke went on to lead the CJP's sit-in and marches in Delhi through June and July 2026. Wikipedia

What the evidence shows

Documented BOOM split the video into keyframes and matched them to Jaishankar's joint press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi on 24 May 2026. It then watched the livestream on the Ministry of External Affairs' official YouTube channel. Jaishankar's clothes matched the viral clip, but the remarks about the CJP "do not appear anywhere in the original recording." BOOM

The MEA's official transcript of the press conference also contains no such statement. BOOM ran the audio through Hiya, an AI voice detection tool, which flagged it as manipulated. BOOM published its fact-check on 26 May and rated the claim false, concluding: "BOOM found the video to be a deepfake." BOOM

No Indian government statement has sought Dipke's extradition from any country. Asked separately about foreign funding of the protests, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: "I have no information to share." Wikipedia

Context

This was one of many AI fakes during the CJP protests. Newschecker counted about 15, alongside large amounts of recycled footage. Deepfakes also showed Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal and the Chief of Defence Staff threatening protesters. Newschecker On 25 July Delhi Police said more than 400 "Pakistan-operated" handles were spreading deepfakes, but released no names or evidence.
