Where the claim came from

The CJP launched on 16 May 2026 as a satirical response to the Chief Justice's "cockroaches" remark and drew 50,000 sign-ups within a day. The Wire In its first week, supporters circulated content showing the new "party" taking on the system.

One such clip showed men confronting a uniformed officer over money. Users captioned it as CJP members catching a corrupt officer and said the group had started "cleaning up the rotten system". What the evidence shows

Documented A reverse image search on keyframes led Newschecker to a News24 Instagram post dated 26 February 2026 carrying the same footage. It described an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) operation in Chhattisgarh. Newschecker

The officer was sub-inspector Abdul Munaf, posted at the Paudi outpost in Korea district. He allegedly demanded ₹50,000 from a farmer, Satyendra Prajapati, threatening to implicate him in a murder case, and was caught accepting ₹25,000. A Dainik Bhaskar report of 25 February 2026 said the ACB used chemically treated notes and moved in once the money changed hands inside the outpost. A Navbharat Times report of 26 February used the same visuals and said they showed an official ACB operation, "not members of any political group". Newschecker

Newschecker published its finding on 22 May 2026 and rated the claim false, noting that "the video existed online months before the Cockroach Janata Party was conceptualised." It repeated the finding in its weekly wrap on 23 May. Newschecker Newschecker
