In October 2026 a video by analyst PN Rai, carried by the RSS-linked weekly Organiser, said Norwegian journalist Helle Lyng was a featured speaker at the Human Rights Foundation's Oslo Freedom Forum. There is no evidence for this: she is not on the forum's speaker lists, and her question to Narendra Modi came two weeks before the forum met.
Claim: Helle Lyng, who called out a question to Modi in Oslo on 18 May 2026, was a featured speaker at the HRF's Oslo Freedom Forum.
Said by: PN Rai in a video posted on 4 October 2026, amplified by Organiser on 5 October.
What the record shows: She does not appear on the 2026 or all-speakers lists. Her question (18 May) came before the forum (1 to 3 June). No HRF grant or fellowship for her is on record.
Where the claim came from
On 18 May 2026 Modi appeared with Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo and took no questions. As he left, Lyng, a reporter for the newspaper Dagsavisen, called out: "Prime Minister Modi, why don't you take some questions from the freest press in the world?" Nieman Reports
Claim · PN Rai Rai argued that the Cockroach Janta Party was scripted at the Oslo Freedom Forum. According to Organiser, he "notes that one of the featured speakers was the Norwegian journalist (Helle Lyng Svendsen) who had earlier heckled Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Oslo visit". Organiser presented the claim as Rai's and cited no programme, video or document from the forum showing her as a speaker. Organiser

Documented Organiser's own timeline puts her question on 18 May and the forum on 1 to 3 June 2026. A question asked two weeks before an event cannot have been planned as a talk at it. Organiser
No HRF record of a grant, fellowship or job for Lyng was found, and no fact-checker has yet assessed the October claim. Nieman Reports' account of the episode mentions no link to HRF or the forum. Nieman Reports
Context
After her question Lyng faced online abuse, including threats to her family.
