A video circulating on 11 October 2026 shows a man who says he recently resigned as a Delhi Police sub-inspector to join the protest against the Chief Election Commissioner. Delhi Police say the claim is false: their records show no sub-inspector matching his details, and the same video was already clarified in July.
Claim: A Delhi Police sub-inspector resigned from the force to join the ongoing protest.
Said by: The man in the video, who has not been named in any report we found. The clip was recirculated on social media.
What the record shows: Delhi Police say a check of their records found no sub-inspector matching his claim, and that they clarified the same video on 24 July 2026. The police are the keepers of those records; no independent check has been published.
Where the claim came from
The video appeared during the Cockroach Janta Party's second push to reach Jantar Mantar, after thousands were detained on 10 October. A police officer quitting to stand with the protesters would have been a powerful image for the movement, and the clip spread on that basis.
According to Delhi Police, the video is not new. They say it was "recirculated", and that they had addressed the same clip on 24 July 2026, in the days after the CJP's July protest at Jantar Mantar. Delhi Police
What the evidence shows
Police position At 10:33 am on 11 October Delhi Police posted a "Clarification" on X: "A video is being recirculated on social media in which an individual falsely claims to be a Delhi Police Sub Inspector who recently resigned from service to join the ongoing protest. Verification of Delhi Police records has revealed no Sub Inspector matching the details claimed" in the video. Delhi Police
The force says it had already clarified the same video on 24 July 2026. That means the clip was in circulation more than two months before the 10 October protest, which on its own rules out that it shows a resignation made to join this protest.
Not independently checked We have not found a check of the clip by Alt News, BOOM, Newschecker or another independent fact-checker, and the man has not publicly responded to the police statement. Only Delhi Police can see its own staff records, so its denial is the strongest evidence available. We rate the claim false on that basis and will update this page if he comes forward with proof of service.
Context
Delhi Police posted several warnings that weekend. Delhi Police On 10 October it called a video of police firing at protesters "completely false" and not from Delhi. Delhi Police
Police statements are not always the last word. On the same morning Delhi Police corrected its own post on an assault video, first describing the victim as a woman and later as a man. Delhi Police The wider events are on our Jantar Mantar 10 October page and our CJP protests page.
